This is offered as family’s dynamics differ from family to family. If your family is having difficulties due to parent’s conflicts or sibling rivalry, working with a therapist will be beneficial. Family therapy is also useful where the loss of a parent through illness, divorce or separation is involved. It also benefits those families created unexpectedly such as single parent families or expectedly for the adults but unexpectedly for the children such as in stepfamilies. Communication within the family can be improved with counselling as the therapist is not biased to either person.
Other areas where family therapy may help is where a child, teenager or young adult is struggling or has a serious problem that affects the rest of the family. This may include:
- Child or adolescent issues
- Mental health, illness, or disability
- Grief and loss
- Domestic violence
- Addictions
