JK & Associates Therapy services offers counselling to individuals, family's, couples, and groups covering a variety of issues. These issues can range from addiction and recovery, trauma, marital and family, adolescent behaviour, grief and loss; all of which are addressed through an approach unique to you. Majority of the approaches used are solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, systemic and structural therapies, or equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP).

Jo-Anne Karlsson
Jo-Anne works predominantly with those under the age of 18 years either individually or with their families as well as adults suffering with complex trauma. Her therapeutic approach allows flexibility to enable the client to explore the areas they need to explore to heal and move forward. However, Jo-Anne is not afraid to challenge the client as and when needed, while still holding the therapeutic space. Jo-Anne attended counselling herself and has, through this experience, learnt the benefits of it and how it contributes to exploring the uncomfortable areas with confidence. No one likes looking in the mirror, because we are afraid of what we'll see when we're being honest. Nevertheless, the therapeutic relationship is key to the work being done; if the client does not have a positive relationship with the counsellor or therapist, or feel safe during the session, there will be little forward movement.
Jo-Anne is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), following their ethical guidelines in all that she does. However, when it comes to sessions where they are Equine Facilitated sessions, the BACP ethical guidelines are also considered as recommended by the LEAP method. Jo-Anne started out on the Clinical Psychology route in the UK interning at the Child Institute of Mental Health within Great Ormond Street Hospital but changed to the Marital and Family route interning in Texas, United States of America. After living and training in the USA and gaining her Masters Jo-Anne moved with her family to Singapore and the ex-pat community working with Youth-At-Risk and an Equine Facilitated Program. The last four years Jo-Anne has been in Private Practice in Berkshire, currently adding Supervision and Personality Testing to her skill base. Continue Reading
